RunMate ("we", "us", or "our") is a marathon and running event companion app developed by XOR Geek. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal data when you use our mobile application (com.xor.runmate).
Information We Collect
Account Information
- Email address and display name — collected at sign-up via Email/Password, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In.
- Profile photo — optional, uploaded by you.
Location Data
- Precise GPS location collected only while a run is active (foreground and background).
- Used to track your route, calculate distance and pace, and show your position on the live event map.
- Location is not collected when the app is closed or no run is in progress.
Fitness & Activity Data
- Run distance, pace, elapsed time, and route coordinates recorded per run.
Photos
- Photos taken in-app during a run (run selfies) stored in Firebase Storage, visible only to you.
Device Data
- Device notification token for push notifications only.
- No advertising identifiers or third-party analytics SDKs are used.
How We Use Your Information
- Display your live position on the race map during an event.
- Calculate and save your run statistics (distance, pace, time).
- Show your position on the live leaderboard to other participants in the same event.
- Enable the Friends feature and friend-only leaderboards.
- Send event and race notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- Improve app performance and fix bugs (no third-party analytics used).
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. Limited sharing occurs only in the following cases:
- Other event participants: Your display name, profile photo, and live location (lat/lng) are visible to other runners in the same event during an active run only. This data is removed from our servers when your run ends.
- Friends: Your display name, profile photo, and aggregated run stats are visible to users you have added as friends.
- Firebase / Google: Our backend infrastructure. Data is processed per the Google Privacy Policy.
No data is shared with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties.

Data Retention
- Account data is retained until you delete your account.
- Run history and stats are retained to maintain your personal records.
- Live location data is deleted from our servers the moment your run ends.
- Run photos are retained until you delete them or your account.
- You may request complete data deletion at any time (see Section 8).
Security
All data is stored on Firebase (Google Cloud infrastructure) with encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest. Access to your data is controlled by Firebase Security Rules, ensuring users can only access their own data and publicly shared event data.
While we implement industry-standard security measures, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.
Children's Privacy
RunMate is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will delete that information.
Your Rights & Data Deletion
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data via Settings → Edit Profile.
- Delete your account and all associated data via Settings → Delete Account.
- Object to certain processing of your data.
- Withdraw consent at any time by uninstalling the app.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" at the top of this page and notify users via in-app notification or email for material changes.
Continued use of RunMate after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
